Dear Friends and Colleagues,
George’s annual Davos speech will be live on Bloomberg on Thursday, January 24th at approximately 8:30 PM CET/2:30 PM EST/11:30 AM PST. Like last year, I am betting his remarks this year will capture the headlines! Watch HERE.
In the meantime, I wanted to share the two stories below in case you missed them.
BuzzFeed picked up a story from Das Magazin that reveals how anti-Soros sentiment around the world is the creation of a couple of evil Republican consultants.
How two Jewish American political consultants helped create the world’s largest anti-Semitic conspiracy theory.
The demonization of Soros is one of the defining features of contemporary global politics, and it is, with a couple of exceptions, a pack of lies. Soros is indeed Jewish. He was an aggressive currency trader. He has backed Democrats in the US and Karl Popper’s notion of an “open society” in the former communist bloc. But the many wild and proliferating theories, which include the suggestion that he helped bring down the Soviet Union in order to clear a path to Europe for Africans and Arabs, are so crazy as to be laughable — if they weren’t so virulent.
And the Hungarian investigative website Atlatszo backs this up by revealing that the government of Hungary spent 200 million of taxpayer money on political propaganda.
The Hungarian government spent 69.3 billion Hungarian forints (approximately €216 million at today’s exchange rate) on propaganda and fearmongering in the past eight years. Our infographics also reveal that taxpayer money spent on spreading these messages is growing every year. Also, the companies that do the work and receive all this money (media outlets, outdoor advertising companies) are all owned by businessmen close to the government – except for one.
